POSITION SUMMARY:

The responsibility of the Analyst / Sr. Analyst is to support the Database Marketing group in its efforts to leverage customer information to drive more informed business decisions.  The business analyst will utilize strong analytical, quantitative and research skills to support the company’s offline and online marketing function.  S/he will use the company’s internal transactional data, including web analytics, as well as externally sourced data to develop statistical analysis including data mining, reporting and other ad hoc analytic work.

 

The ideal candidate will have a blend of marketing and analytic experience.  S/he must have a strong ability to process and interpret vast amounts of data and compile the data into actionable business plans that support the organizational needs.  S/he will monitor and report on the performance of our marketing efforts and make actionable recommendations for process and strategy improvement.  This individual should be a driven, self starter capable of identifying business needs and following through with sound solutions.  As the magazine industry transitions from print to digital this individual will need to adapt and understand the marketing and financial implications.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Analysis / Data Mining
    • Understand the underlying business questions and conduct the appropriate analyses to address them.
    • Identify opportunities to improve ongoing business processes.
    • Support the development and management of new customer valuation capabilities.
  • Customer targeting
    • Work with Internal and External programmers and statisticians to develop and manage customer targeting models and strategies to improve operating and marketing efficiency.
    • Work closely with Acquisition, Digital and Renewal & Billing groups to identify opportunities and unique customer segments against profit growth areas.
  • Reporting
    • Collaborate on the development of reporting platforms that support the needs of the operational business groups as well as senior management.
    • Assume responsibility for the routine maintenance of the data and reporting platforms.
  • List management / list rental modeling
    • Work with list vendors to oversee the development of custom list selection models to support third party list rental business and drive incremental list selections.
    • Work with Internal and External model build team to act as project lead.

 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

 

  • BA/BS required ideally in a quantitative field.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in a data intensive environment.
  • SQL and/or SAS experience a plus.
  • Strong Excel and Access skills.
  • High sense of urgency and an entrepreneurial spirit combined with a disciplined analytical approach based upon facts and data.
  • Ability to deliver high quality analytical insights in a business environment.   Must be able to handle multiple projects.
  • Understanding of multi-channel marketing
  • Experience with various types and sources of data.
  • Proven record in problem-solving and business innovation.
  • Exceptional quantitative/problem-solving orientation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
