Sandie Roberts

Chief Production Officer

Sandie has over 25 years of experience working in the publishing industry. Prior to joining PubWorX, Sandie worked at Rodale Inc. where she managed Production, Editorial Operations and Technology Services. In addition to working in production, over her career Sandie has also supported workflow systems and operations for books and direct mail products. During her time at Rodale, Sandie focused on identifying ways to transform business functions through the use of best practices and technology generating significant operational efficiencies and cost savings.

Karen Otto

Executive Director, Operations/Premedia

Karen has over 29 years of magazine production experience. During the course of her career she has worked for several different kinds of publishing companies including: a small boutique publisher, a mid-size publisher of Trade magazines and a large publisher of consumer magazines. The majority of her career was spent at Hearst Magazines where she held various positions in the areas of advertising production, manufacturing operations and premedia. In her current role Karen supervises the Pubworx Operations and Premedia teams. The Operations team manages the book make-up process and acts as the liaison between the client and the printer. The Premedia team oversees the quality assurance of editorial files and provides ad traffic services.

Sean Keefe

Chief Technology Officer

Sean has over 24 years experience focused on publishing systems, workflows and processes. Prior to PubWorx, he spent several years at Hearst Magazines in various roles spanning from Managing Editor to leading Hearst’s Publishing Technology team. During his time at Hearst, Sean helped to transform editorial, imaging and production workflows, garnering efficiency and cost savings while navigating the ever changing publishing landscape. Sean has extensive experience working with leading industry systems and technology companies as well as managing relationships with various service providers.

Brian Schmitt

Executive Director, Distribution

In his 30 years working in the Publishing industry Brian Schmitt has managed distribution services for a wide variety of publishers — from small, targeted business to business magazines and journals to large consumer titles. An active member of the mailing community he works closely with the Postal Service representing PubWorX at MPA, IDEAlliance, PostCom, and PAG. Brian has been successful in making Distribution Services a valuable partner to Fulfillment, Advertising and Marketing colleagues.

Julie Jacowleff

Executive Director, Production Finance

Julie has over 35 years of publishing industry experience. Prior to joining PubWorX Julie held both financial management and production operations positions at Conde Nast, Time Inc., Reed Business Information, Chilton and Fairchild Publications.
As a Group Production Director, in addition to her production responsibilities, Julie also had financial management responsibilities. Julie is focused on manufacturing finance using financial models she created including related variance analysis and reporting processes. Julie’s experience includes budgeting, estimating, RFQs, print contract analysis and negotiation.

Katharine Benson

Premedia Director

With a degree in Graphic Media Publishing from Rochester Institute of Technology, Katharine Benson, has over 12 years of experience in magazine and editorial production. Starting her career at a small publisher, Air Age Media, Katharine learned various production functions including advertising traffic, editorial page workflow, preflight and digital edition preparation. As she moved into Hearst, Katharine gained additional extensive production experience supporting the editorial and advertising workflows of various books and production teams. In her role as Premedia Director, Katharine manages the Premedia team which oversees editorial page processing and advertising traffic services.

Patti Nolan

Operations Director

Patti has over 25 years of magazine production experience and has worked for several major publishers and produced various types of publications such as Sport Magazine, NFL Insider, FHM Magazine, Town & Country, Every Day with Rachael Ray and so on. She most recently worked for over 12 years at Trusted Media Brands (formerly known as Reader’s Digest) where she supervised the production team for both US and Canada as well as directed paper purchasing and managed premedia. In her current role Patti supervises the PubWorX Operations team in the Doral, FL office.

Chris Wengiel

Operations Director

Chris has over 28 years of industry experience. He joined Conde Nast in 2005 where he managed both consumer and trade publications which included daily, weekly and monthly titles. Among them were WWD, The New Yorker, Parade Magazine and Vogue. He was involved in key initiatives involving the development of departmental SOP’s and workflows. In his current role as Operations Director, Chris manages a group of Production Managers who ensure a smooth production cycle for the titles in the PubWorX portfolio. Prior to 2005 Chris worked at several publication printers and serviced clients both big and small and was intimately involved in the launch of new publications and the onboarding of many new clients.

Craig Balick

Senior Director of Production Finance

Craig is a progressive Finance executive with a demonstrated track record in contract negotiations, operations, financial planning and analysis. He has proven success optimizing operations, automating time consuming processes and championing continuous improvements to increase efficiency while reducing costs.
His experience and expertise includes magazine, direct mail production and distribution and launching start up publishing companies.
Prior to joining PubWorX, Craig had a 24-year tenure with Hearst Magazines. His previous experience includes multiple roles in Production and Finance with Hayden Publishing, Family Media, and Ziff Davis.

Tonya Coker

Distribution Services Manager

Tonya has worked in publishing operations since joining the Hearst Magazines Distribution staff in the Charlotte Service Center in 1994. As a Coordinator at the start of her career she created edition definitions in a world before book make-up tools. She also was responsible for coordinating vendor efforts delivering large consumer magazines to market including retail newsstand, subscriber copies delivered by the U.S. Postal Service, and bulk or special shipments delivered by package service vendors. A manager since 2000, Tonya had led the Distribution Services team for over 18 years. The group currently supports over 50 titles for PubWorX clients and executes over 500 mailings a year.

Elizabeth Cruz

Publishing Systems Manager

Liz Cruz began working in magazine publishing in 1997 with production positions at Fairchild Publications, Time, Inc., and Gruner & Jahr. With experience in ad trafficking, advertisement pre-flighting, and page layout she joined Hearst Magazines in 2005 as an Associate Production Manager. While at Hearst she was selected to be part of the team introducing computer book make up tools to the production process. Her extensive experience introducing first Impoze, and later Publisher’s Studio, to Hearst left her well positioned to become the Publishing Systems Manager at PubWorX when the company launched in August 2016. Liz is currently the administrator for three critical programs — Publisher’s Studio, Circulation Manager and Virtual Publisher — at PubWorX and all three help provide services to over 50 PubWorX client titles.

Andrew Carbone

Director of Publishing Technology

Andrew has more than 20 years of experience with editorial workflow, production, and systems management. He has worked for several brands at both Hearst and Conde Nast in Production Director and Managing Editor roles, as well as an independent consultant, specializing in transitional brands and startups, bringing positive change and manageable workflow solutions in the face of the changing publishing environment. He also brings experience from the consulting world, working at SYPartners as the Director of Production, managing a global team of production designers for large scale and boutique multimedia events. A proponent of print and digital harmony, Andrew believes in evolving workflows to help the teams at the brands he supports better navigate the challenges they face while giving them the space they need to be creative.

Leonardo Celestino

Director, Imaging, Process and Workflow

Leonardo Celestino began his journey into Publishing over twenty years ago. He began teaching himself photoshop as a pastime which quickly evolved into a passion, often finding himself dreaming in Photoshop. This quickly transformed into a career beginning at a boutique printing company located in Tribeca catering to photographers and fine art printing. Leo segued into Hearst magazines as a digital imaging specialist with a detailed eye for fashion and beauty, working closely with photographers and creative directors enabling them to realize their artistic visions. In an ever-changing industry he transitioned into a focus on imaging and editorial workflow efficiency. Leo now oversees Imaging solutions for PubWorX, servicing dozens of brands, including Condé Nast and Hearst Magazines.

Jennifer Kovach

Director of Digital

Jen has over 15 years experience in publishing, art direction, and design. Her prior experience includes Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Newsweek, InStyle, Brides, Better Homes & Gardens specials, and more. Jen was lead in launching the Entertainment Weekly digital app which was nominated for app of the year by the Society of Publication Designers and earned five-star ratings in Apple’s newsstand. Outside of publishing she has experience in omni-channel retail marketing and custom design studios. Jen currently manages design and production for all Hearst and Conde Nast digital editions, among other brands. In addition to the digital department at PubWorX, she oversees offshore design and production teams in Malaysia and the Philippines. Beyond digital and print publishing, Jen also brings extensive experience in photo art direction, team leadership, and client relationships.
